Todos hemos conocido ese cliente que se le olvida pagar sus impuestos a tiempo… y quizás muy a destiempo, volviendo al despacho con el rabito entre las patas: “Contador ¿me puede volver a generar la línea de captura para pagar?”. Tan fuera de tiempo que es necesario aplicar factor de actualización a las contribuciones.
En México empleamos el Índice Nacional de Precios al Consumidor como el indicador que nos permite “convertir pesos viejos a pesos nuevos”. Actualmente, este índice tiene como base la segunda quincena de junio 2018 = 100.
Pensándolo bien ¿Qué utilidad tienen los índices en la economía nacional y mundial? Si actualmente estás estudiando en la escuela o ya te graduaste hace años, seguramente odiabas los índices y las matemáticas tanto como yo.
Qué son los índices.
Un índice es un indicador que nos ayuda a comprender la proporción en que varía una magnitud respecto a otra en un espacio de tiempo. Para el cálculo de dicha proporción se tienen que tomar en cuenta valores que puedan expresarse con una unidad, como son valores iniciales, valores finales y el tiempo transcurrido entre ambos valores.
Una característica de los índices es que son adimensionales, puesto que se expresan con un número entero y sus decimales, no se acompañan de unidades de medida como kilogramo, centígrado, metro, pesos mexicanos ni ninguna otra medida.
¿Para qué se usan los índices?
Seguramente el momento del noticiero que utilizas para ir al baño o servirte otra taza de café (porque te parecen muy aburridos) es en la sección financiera: índices, mercado oso, flash crash… pero los índices bursátiles son de gran ayuda para la toma de decisiones de los inversionistas, porque estos reflejan el crecimiento o decremento de las principales economías del mundo.
Encontramos índices como el Standar&Poor´s, que abarca a las principales 500 empresas americanas y el Down Jones Industrial Average, que reune la información proporcionada por 30 colosos financieros de los Estados Unidos de América.
El NASQAD 100 reúne a las 100 grandes empresas que cotizan en la Bolsa de Nueva York, incluyéndo a empresas dedicadas al desarrollo y mejora de tecnología. En Alemania podemos encontrar el DAX y en Japón el Nikkei que comprende 225 compañías.
Ahora sí podemos entender por qué el mundo de las Finanzas se escandalizó ante la reciente caída de los principales índices bursátiles del mundo a fines del 2018. Si caen los índices, hasta cierto punto se cae la credibilidad para invertir en las empresas representadas por esos índices. De ahí la importancia de dichos indicadores, en el fondo esas abstracciones pueden llevar a ganancias o pérdidas millonarias para los inversores.
